The USPS® recently launched their latest enhancement to the mailing experience. Informed Delivery® is an optional feature for eligible residential addresses to view a digital preview of their household’s mail daily. The feature benefits both consumers and mailers.
Residents who participate will receive an email in the morning that contains images of the exterior, address side of their incoming mail. This gives residents a preview of the mail they are scheduled to receive. In addition to email, users can view images of their mail on their dashboard at informeddelivery.usps.com.
Mailers that participate in the program also benefit. Not only does the mailer get an additional advertising impression, but if they participate in the Informed Delivery Interactive Campaign, they can increase customer engagement with a color image linked to a URL that will appear in the consumer’s email dashboard. This merger of physical mail with the digital world provides an additional digital channel for customer interaction, and can provide measurable data insights for the mailer.
How It Works:
Informed Delivery leverages existing mail imaging processes to give users a digital preview of their incoming mail. Multiple residents can sign up, as the feature is provided at the household level.
Sign Up: Household residents can sign up to participate at USPS.com. Registration will be completed once identity is verified.
Mail is imaged during processing: USPS uses existing processes to gather digital images of the exterior of letter sized mailpieces.
Images are matched to delivery points: USPS matches mailpiece images to Informed Delivery users.
Resident is notified: USPS notifies the Informed Delivery user of mailpieces arriving soon in email and their online dashboard view.
Resident receives mailpiece: User will receive the physical mailpiece that they viewed through regular delivery.
Interact: Eligible mailpieces will either contain digital links that can be interacted within the Informed Delivery preview, or the physical mailpiece will contain scannable codes with access to interactive content provided by mailers, such as online promotions.
